It's Time 2023: The World Tourism Network Summit Pre-Launched in Bali
MANGUPURA, NusaBali.com - The official prelaunch of the first World Tourism Network Summit, TIME 2023, was launched Thursday (23/2/2023) in Bali, Indonesia, at the beautiful Harris Riverview Hotel in Kuta.
Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy for the Republic of Indonesia, Sandiago Salahuddin Uno, and the World Tourism Network Indonesia Chapter Chairwoman, Mudi Astuti, signed an MOU to allow Indonesia to be the host of this global summit and think tank.
Juergen Steinmetz, Chairman of the World Tourism Network, and President, Dr Peter Tarlow, attended virtually from the United States and echoed their support and excitement, thanking the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, the Bali Tourism Board, the Indonesia Healthcare Corporation, and the WTN team in Bali for their ambition and hard work.
Mr Steinmetz related greetings from Dr Taleb Rifai, former UNWTO Secretary-General and patron of the organization; the WTN VP for international relations and former Minister of Tourism Seychelles, Alain St Ange; and Vice President, Professor Geoffrey Lipman of Malta-based SUNx and the first CEO of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC).
Steinmetz said there could not have been a better venue in the world than the “Islands of the Gods” - Bali. This event will be a milestone for the World Tourism Network. Founded as a think tank for rebuilding travel in March 2020 in Berlin, Germany, World Tourism Network grew to a sizable global network with members in 129 countries.
The essence of the World Tourism Network is rebuilding travel and showcasing the resilience of the sector. Therefore, Steinmetz said, he was proud to get confirmation from the Minister of Tourism for Jamaica, Edmund Bartlett, to be part of this upcoming summit. Bartlett was behind the United Nations General Assembly's decision 2 weeks ago to make Global Tourism Resilience Day official.

WTN is all about Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). The focus of the summit, therefore, will be on SMEs. Buyers will meet sellers, and sellers will meet buyers. TIME2023 will be an exchange of inbound and outbound tourism opportunities for SMEs.
Time 2023 will facilitate a giant fam trip for the well-vetted selling travel trade to attend the summit and explore Bali. Bali hotels, resorts, attractions, airlines, and other stakeholders are invited to join WTN and host qualified participants after the summit.
Besides ongoing networking and doing business among friends, there are 4 pillars of think tank discussions - like having 4 events in one.

Renowned Professor Geoffrey Lipman, the tourism voice for climate change will introduce new developments and bring a group of experts to discuss the commitment to be net zero carbon by 2050 with his focus being on small islands.
Professor Lipman is the co-author of a 2014 study on transitioning to a green economy in his case study on Bali. He is Chairman of the International Climate Change Coalition, president of Malta-based SUNx and was the first CEO of WTTC as well as the Assistant Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization.

The rebuilding.travel discussion started on March 5, 2020, on the sidelines of ITB Berlin. ITB was canceled, but rebuilding.travel launched at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Berlin. In December, rebuilding.travel continued but was structured within a new organization called World Tourism Network.
By bringing together private and public sector members on regional and global platforms, WTN not only advocates for its members but provides them a voice at major tourism meetings. WTN provides opportunities and essential networking for its members in more than 120 countries.
