Sea Toll from Airport to Canggu and Nusa Dua to Operate by Early 2025

MANGUPURA, NusaBali.com – In addition to the upcoming underground Mass Rapid
Transit (MRT) or subway system, a sea toll is set to provide tourists with another transportation option from Ngurah Rai International Airport to key tourism hubs such as Canggu in North Kuta and Nusa Dua in South Kuta, Badung.
The "sea toll" refers to a water-based transportation route designed to connect strategic locations seamlessly. In this case, the proposed sea toll will link Ngurah Rai International Airport to Canggu, including the Berawa area in Tibubeneng Village, North Kuta.
Badung Regent I Nyoman Giri Prasta revealed that several options are being explored to alleviate traffic congestion in the central tourism zones and surrounding areas. In addition to existing shortcuts and the planned subway system, the sea toll is emerging as another viable solution to tackle the issue.
“Astungkara (God willing), between January or February next year, we will establish the sea toll so that tourists along the coastal areas (Canggu-Berawa) no longer need to use the main roads but can rely on water transportation,” said Giri recently.
Giri clarified that no new ports would be constructed for this initiative. Instead, the Badung Regency Government, in collaboration with the Bali-Penida River Basin Agency, will design stopovers or docking points for vessels. The priority will be sea toll connections from the airport to Canggu and Nusa Dua.
“There will be boats docking at the airport’s coastline. Guests will be transported directly to their hotel front along the Canggu-Berawa coast. The primary focus now is on connections between the airport, Canggu, and Nusa Dua,” Giri added.
This sea toll project will not be operated by the government but will involve partnerships with third parties, particularly in managing and running the water transportation services.
“The specific type of boats will be announced later. Most likely, we will use larger boats in cooperation with private entities,” explained Giri, who is also the elected Deputy Governor of Bali.
Giri also noted that private businesses are already providing sea transport services connecting various tourism destinations without direct government involvement. “Some are already operating, such as transfers from here to Suluban,” he said.
NusaBali.com found that businesses offering tourist transfer services via sea routes, such as those by PT Bali Island Ticket (GoBoat.id), are already active. However, these services do not currently include transfers to or from the airport.
According to GoBoat.id’s website, two round-trip routes are currently available for sea-based tourist transfers. The first connects Canggu and Jimbaran via Nelayan Beach, Canggu, and Kedonganan Beach, Jimbaran. The second links Canggu to Uluwatu via Nelayan Beach and Padang Padang Beach in Pecatu Village, South Kuta.
The prices range from IDR 215,000 per trip for shorter routes like Canggu-Jimbaran, with an estimated travel time of 20 minutes, to IDR 255,000 per trip for the longer Canggu-Uluwatu route, which takes about 35 minutes. *rat
