Semarang Airport Temporarily Closed Due to Flooding

Ahmad Yani International Airport in Semarang, Central Java, was temporarily closed as floodwater inundated part of its runway on Saturday (6/2/2021).
The temporary closure of the airport was based on notice to airmen number B0177/21, the airport's stakeholder relations manager, Heri Trisno Wibowo said."The temporary closure followed a routine check in the morning which found floodwater inundating the runway following torrential heavy rains overnight," he said.
He said airport workers were trying to pump the floodwater out of the runway using 54 pumps. "We, along with the relevant units, have reactivated 54 pumps. We hope the problem could be settled soon," he said.
The flooding forced the airport authority to divert Garuda Indonesia flight GA-232 to Juanda Airport in Surabaya, East Java. Seven flights to and from Jenderal Ahmad Yani International Airport in Semarang, Central Java were delayed on Saturday as flood submerged its runway.
"Until now, seven flights were delayed and one flight was redirected to Surabaya, namely Garuda Indonesia flight GA 232 serving Jakarta-Semarang route," Stakeholder Relation Manager of PT Angkasa Pura I Jenderal Ahmad Yani Airport Heri Trisno Wibowo said when contacted by phone here on Saturday.
The seven delayed flights are Batik Air ID 6362 serving Jakarta-Semarang, route Batik Air ID 6350 Jakarta-Semarang, Nam Air IN 195 Pangkalan Bun-Semarang, Wings Air IW 1806 Semarang-Pangkalan Bun, Garuda Indonesia GA 235 Semarang-Jakarta, Batik Air ID 7369 Semarang-Jakarta, and Nam Air IN 196 Semarang-Pangkalan Bun.
Wibowo said, the airport would be closed until the weather got better. The airport operator has pumped the water out of the runway. "Checking and cleaning of the flight area and the terminal area are still ongoing," he said.*ant
