DENPASAR, NusaBali.com - Tourists who have seen Bali as their home are indeed requiring public services from the local government. But not little facing unexpected scam, unjust and unlawful bureaucracy conducted by staff and officials.
Bali ombudsman office announced their eagerness to receive tourist complaints with open arms. This commitment follows a response to the island's current tourism activity.
The Ombudswoman of the Bali Province, Ni Nyoman Sri Widhiyanti, recently witnessed tourists involved in breaching local laws. Also, tourists who experienced misconduct of public service and local government regulations.
"Now we can welcome complaints from tourists, which we could not before," the former Bali Ombudsman deputy said at her office, Jalan Melati 14 East Denpasar on Friday (21/7/2023).
Sri explained the latest regulations have allowed tourists to file reports about glitches in the local public service system. Whether it is about what they have been through while taking public services or the misconduct of law enforcement toward foreigners.
However, only tourists that hold residence permits in their pocket can file the report. The residence permits include a limited residence permit (KITAS) or permanent residence permit (KITAP).
Residence permits are mandatory to get complaints filed. Ombudsman says that it is to guarantee and verify the complaints are valid, not a prank. They stressed whistleblowers are kept secret and secured.
"We have received a few reports from tourists. Their complaints around healthcare, licensing, and the services that they bump into on a daily basis," Sri added.
She could not elaborate further on the specific number of reports received from tourists. Meaning, the ratio is low as there may still be unreported cases.
Sri claimed tourists that have reported complaints and then the reports processed by the ombudsman are mostly satisfied with the output. Even though, some complaints desired monetary compensation intead of the enhancement services.
"Some of them wants our mechanism follows their countries' such as providing monetary compensation. We said, 'Sorry, we cannot do that' because that's not how it works here, there is no article rule like that," the former activist said.
Meanwhile, Bali immigration office reveals 4,366 rebellious tourists in the first quarter of 2023. Among those, 85 have been kicked out of the country, most of them are Russian. *rat
